On Saturday 4th June 2022 some thirty Spiritan missionaries marked the Silver, Golden or Diamond Jubilees of their Ordination to the priesthood. The celebration in Kimmage Manor, the first since the Covid-19 pandemic, covered anniversaries that fell in 2020, 2021 and 2022. Fr Reggie Gillooly C.S.Sp. was celebrating the delayed 70th anniversary of his ordination in 1951.
A native of Dún Laoghaire where – along with the late Denis Rogers C.S.Sp. – he attended the local CBS, Fr Gillooly (pictured left at the jubilee celebrations with Fr Martin Kelly C.S.Sp., Spiritan Provincial) spent over 50 years in The Gambia, in West Africa, in a variety of educational, pastoral and administrative roles. He had a long association with The Catholic Bookshop which sourced and imported educational and liturgical supplies.
Aged 97 and the second-oldest member of the Province, he continues to do part-time telephone receptionist duties in Kimmage Manor where he is retired.
