Libermann Spiritan School, Templeogue – the newest of the Spiritan schools in Ireland which cater for over 5,000 students – opened its doors on 4th September 2023. With a further intake of students the following month, the co-educational school, catering for autistic children (aged 4-18 years) with complex needs, now has a total of 30 students (in 5 classes).
School facilities include a state-of-the-art sensory room, a soft play/therapy area, a life-skills room and a Lego project area. We also have 2 playgrounds – one for the senior students and one for the younger children. The building, in what had long been the residence of a community of Spiritans, is a credit to the design and construction teams.
Currently overseen by a 4-person unitary management team, the school will have its own board of management by the end of 2023. Current staffing consists of principal, school secretary, 5 class teachers (one of whom is deputy principal) and 16 special needs assistants (SNAs).
The school was formally launched on Monday 4th December 2023 by Tánaiste Micheál Martin, pictured with (L-R) Vivienne Wynne (principal) and Anita Boyle (deputy principal).
On 2nd February 2024, the Feast Day of Spiritan founder Francis Libermann after whom the school is called, Archbishop Dermot Farrell formally blessed the school while Ms Josepha Madigan TD, Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion, led a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the school’s opening.
