Responsible To:         
The Assistant Safeguarding Officer will report to the Co-ordinator of Safeguarding on a day-to-day basis and to the Spiritan Safeguarding Management Team on a regular basis.

Responsible For:        
All aspects of safeguarding and office administration.

Garda Vetting:          
The position is subject to satisfactory outcome of the Garda Vetting process.

Transport:                 
A full clean Irish driving licence and access to a car would be desirable.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop knowledge and skills relevant to the position through regular training and professional development.
  • Update Spiritan safeguarding policies and procedures in compliance with legislative and Church requirements.
  • Provide safeguarding advice to Spiritan personnel.
  • Deputise for the Safeguarding Co-ordinator in their absence.
  • Create and disseminate guidance documents, templates and best practice.
  • Communicate, support and manage relationships with survivors of abused.
  • Deal with allegations of abuse and communicate with those accused of abuse.
  • Manage interactions with statutory agencies e.g. Gardaí, Tusla etc.
  • Create and update records and databases with personnel and other data.
  • Maintain computer and manual filing systems.
  • Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Submit timely reports and prepare presentations/proposals as assigned.
  • Devise and deliver safeguarding training.
  • Take accurate minutes of meetings.

The above list is not exhaustive; additional areas of responsibility suitable to the role may be added over time, and flexibility to cover for other staff roles may be required from time to time.

Requirements

  • Some experience of working in a safeguarding environment.
  • Sensitivity to victims of abuse and those against whom an allegation of abuse has been made.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations.
  • Competence to respond sensitively to survivors of abuse.
  • Competence to communicate and deal with those accused of abuse.
  • Competence to deal with statutory authorities.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to devise and deliver safeguarding training.
  • Experience in office administration.
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to process data efficiently.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Access, Power Point, Word, Outlook, Excel)

Ideally has managed and utilised Access databases to generate reports. 

  • Self-starter, trustworthy and motivated.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create, develop and maintain positive working relationships and to work in a collaborative manner with internal and external stakeholders.
