A Reflection for the Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time, 19th February 2023
Recently I have been reflecting on my work in a prison when I was a missionary in Ethiopia. The prison was a ‘lively place’, filled with people moving back and forth for different activities. Examining it closer, it is apparent to me that a particular look was shared among certain prisoners who were serving long sentences.

We live in confusing times where many competing agendas vie for supremacy in the fickle and fluctuating arena of public opinion. During World War II an Austrian farmer faced much tougher decisions about the consequences of going against the prevailing tide of conformity.

A Reflection for the Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, 5th February 2023
The readings for this Sunday come as a challenge and a warning, but as a consolation too. The text from Isaiah is reflective of many of the prophets who measure true righteousness and fidelity to God as how we live in community and treat each other: Share your bread with the hungry, shelter the oppressed and the homeless; clothe the naked when you see them, and do not turn your back on your own.
