Let Justice and Peace Flow!

Last Friday began the Season of Creation for this year of 2023.  Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople led the opening day with the Prayer of Creation.  It extends to 4th October, the Feast of St Francis in the Christian churches.  Thus, it is a major ecumenical event and also one not merely of importance to the followers of Jesus of Nazareth but to all humanity whose very existence is threatened at this point in history.

A major source of ‘food’, of inspiration for us as Christians, is the document Laudato Si’ written by Pope Francis to all persons living on this planet (Laudato Si’ 3).  The words Laudato Si’ mean ‘Praised be’ and are the opening words of St Francis’s beautiful ‘Canticle of Creatures’.  This canticle may well be known to you as it contains the intimate call to Brother Sun and Sister Moon, the name recently given to a film about St Francis.  Indeed, a more up to date film is available on YouTube called ‘The Letter’ which tells the story of Laudato Si’ through the eyes of five people trying to put it into practice.

If you do have the time, it would be great to dedicate these couple of weeks to reading Laudato Si’.  The film ‘The Letter’ can be easily accessed on YouTube. Interesting things to begin our ‘Season of Creation’ celebration.
