A Reflection for the Second Sunday of the Year (16th Jan 2022)
There is a variety of gifts, but always the same Spirit; there are all sorts of service to be done, but always the same Lord; working in all sorts of different ways in different people, it is the same God who is works all of them. The particular way in which the Spirit is given to each person is for a good purpose. When I sit with scripture, I am very often reminded that God doesn’t enjoy sameness. Our creator God enjoys diversity and uniqueness.

A Reflection for The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord (9th Jan 2022)
In today’s Gospel we don’t get a description of the baptism of Jesus. Luke simply tells us that, after his baptism, Jesus was praying and the Spirit came upon him as the Father spoke to him. It is interesting to think about Jesus praying, and Luke clearly wants us to think about it a lot. Many times in his Gospel (much more often than the other evangelists do) he depicts Jesus as praying. It is as though Luke wants his readers to understand that, if Jesus prayed in order to know and do what his Father wanted, how much more should we?

A Reflection for the Second Sunday of Christmas (2nd January 2022)
Today, for the second time over Christmas we are offered the Prologue form of John’s Gospel (Jn 1:1-18). It seems that we are being asked to think big – very BIG! The opening words “in the beginning”, bring us to Genesis 1 and another poem in which we are asked to contemplate another beginning, the mystery of creation in all its wonder.
