Two Irish Spiritans in Brazil mark St Patrick’s Day 2021.

Following a request from Rome in 1963, the first three Irish Spiritans were appointed to Brazil. They were the late Fr John Jordan, Fr Dave Regan and Fr Enda Watters. Their arrival broadly coincided with the second session of Vatican II and was a few months before Brazil’s military coup.

Spiritan, who served in Africa and Papua New Guinea, celebrates his 90th birthday.

Fr James Duncan C.S.Sp. was born in 1930 in Drumnakeel, near Ballycastle, Co. Antrim. Completing his secondary schooling in Blackrock College in 1948, he began his studies for the missionary priesthood, culminating in his ordination as one of over 30 Spiritans in the 1956 Ordination Year.

Jim O’Connell C.S.Sp. – Home from Pakistan where he served for over 4 decades

Making the short trip from the family home in Blackrock, Co. Dublin, Jim attended the Spiritans’ oldest Irish school, Blackrock College, completing his secondary studies in 1969. His formation for final profession and priesthood included 2 years in Queen of Apostles Minor Seminary, Nairobi.

Memorial Service in Ethiopia marks 40 days since the death of Fr Brian O’Toole C.S.Sp.

In line with the funeral traditions of Ethiopian Orthodox Christians, a service was held in Dimeka on Saturday, 12th December to mark the 40 days since the death in November of Brian O’Toole C.S.Sp. Fr Brian’s ‘Hamar family’, a number of Spiritans, current and former staff of SCORE (the development office of the Spiritans in Ethiopia)
