Mission Appeals 2022

Mission Appeals is a very important aspect of Spiritan work. Unfortunately, it has been on hold since March 2020 due to Covid-related restrictions. This year we have been assigned to the Diocese of Killaloe and Area 1 of the Diocese of Down and Connor. We are very grateful to be able to return to this work and to share our missionary story.

Fr. Pat Doody C.S.Sp.

Ordained in 1968, Fr Pat served in Miguta and Thigio parishes of Kenya’s Archdiocese of Nairobi. Returning to Dublin in 1972, he ministered in the new Holy Spirit, Greenhills parish for over a decade. The appointment allowed the ex-student of Rockwell College to play hurling again, with An Caisleán and Robert Emmets!

Fr. John Kingston C.S.Sp. reflects on a quarter century of the Spiritans in Mozambique*.

Having first arrived in the country in 1996, the Spiritans support Mozambique’s poorest people through education and accompaniment. Inyazónia, where I am based, is one of the two missions that we have in rural areas; Itoculo is the other. We also have communities in Beira, an important sea-port city and centre of commerce, and in Nampula, and we have been asked by Mozambique’s bishops to take responsibility for the senior inter-diocesan seminary which is located in the capital city, Maputo.

Fr. Brendan Cogavin C.S.Sp. begins new role in Ireland.

Fr Brendan was ordained in 1991 and, after completing a master’s in mission theology,was appointed to Ethiopia.  Studying the country’s culture, language and religious tradition, he attended Ethiopian Orthodox Church services and daily catechetical programmes. He did pastoral and educational work over a period of three decades and developed his interest in iconography...
